  • Hot Yoga at Lily Pad Yoga. The city's first hot yoga studio opened its doors March 2017. Winter classes will focus on hot yoga practices. As the weather gets warmer, Lily Pad Yoga will branch into the community for pop-up events in parks, breweries, wineries, shops and more. Those interested in Lily Pad Yoga can try it with no risk, as your first week will be entirely free. Visit for a full list of classes and to learn more about the instructors.   • Arts Project Grant Open to nonprofits, schools, government or tribal offices, or community education programs. These grants offer funding for a variety of art projects including costs related to performances or exhibitions, engagement of guest artists, public art projects, and artists-in-residence. Funded arts projects must benefit the residents of Beltrami, Hubbard, Clearwater, Lake of the Woods, or Mahnomen Counties. Award Amount: Up to $2,500. Deadline: April 15, 2017 by 11:59 pm. This activity is funded, in part, by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund.   • Region 2 Arts is planning an Arts Expo at the Rail River Folk School in Bemidji for April 29, 2017. They will have booths set up for info, as well as short workshops during the day. Join them at the event, share and learn about resources for artists in the area. It's a Contemporary and Traditional Arts Showcase and Resource Event Providing regional and statewide resources, as well as artist demonstrations and networking.   • The 2017 Rural Arts and Culture Summit will gather rural artists, arts organizations and community leaders to highlight arts-based strategies for rural community and economic development. The Summit is organized by Springboard for the Arts and the Center for Small Towns. Scholarships are made available via Region 2 Arts Council and the Forum of Regional Arts Councils.   • Dr. Eric Olson will be directing a festival this summer called "Bravo! at Shattuck-St. Mary's" in Faribault, MN from June 11-24, 2017

    Grades 8-12 Dan's Crew, June 26-30 $20/day or $75 for week: Dan's Crew is more than just a work week. You will become part of Neilson Spearhead by experiencing what Spearhead has to offer. You will "eat" your way through the woods and work on trail maintenance and building projects while learning valuable skills such as woodcraft, survival skills and orienteering.
    Grades 6-8 Pines, Lakes, & Rivers, July 24-28, $170/week (includes 1 overnight) ;: By hiking and canoeing, you will explore the diverse ecology of the woodlands and waterways of Lake Spearhead. Have a relaxing time around the fire telling stories and listening to the night sounds. Camp out in the woods on July 27.
    Grades 4-6 Nature Mystery July 17-21 or Aug 7-11, $150/week: Tracks, carrion, scat, bugs, rubs and gnaw marks. You will crack the code by using the puzzling clues that nature leaves behind. Hike, swim, and canoe, too.
    Grades 2-4 Trees, Tales, & Trails July 10-14 or July 31-Aug 4, $150/week: Focused on activities for grades 2-4, explore the woods and waters as you learn about everything from tasty plants and bugs, to trees and birds. There will be lots of fun but don't expect to stay clean.
    All Ages, Family Week, Aug 14-18, $150/week: Siblings, friends and parents welcome during this week of favorite Young Naturalist activities. Swim in the warm sparkling waters of Spearhead Lake, try canoeing, hike on the trails that are now mostly free of mosquitoes and ticks, play games, and listen to the legends of Spearhead.
